Hakiki

Overall Döner Score: 7.5/10

Notes: 5 is the baseline in this rating system. That means anything above 5 is above average and everything below is below average. I always order the same thing (lettuce, cabbage, onions, Scharf and Kräuter sauces...sometimes extra meat.)

Well folks, this is the last Dönerstag of 2019, and what a way to go out! This was a really exceptional kebab and is a serious contender for my new favorite regular Döner in the city.

All of the sauces are homemade and very flavorful. Unlike most other kebab stands, the scharf sauce here was creamy, like the kräuter and knoblauch sauces, instead of red and syrupy. A welcome change, certainly. It loses points on having no kick but gains them back by having a balanced sweetness that doesn't overpower the other flavors. The meat is really what steals the show at Hakiki. It is what other Döner meat should strive to be— salty, juicy, chewy with a crispy outside. Truly excellent. I found the bread to be more flavorful than that of most standard kebabs, as well. The veggie selection was on par with that of any other Dönerbude and was not really anything of note. My only problem with Hakiki is that there isn't a location close to my new apartment. I will definitely be back soon!
