My thoughts:
I, like many-a-"Berliner", was previously under the impression that Rüya and Rüyam were the same thing. However, thanks to Per, of Berlin Food Stories, I have been enlightened and shall bestow upon thee, dear reader, thy scoop. As the story goes, Rüya's former landlord copied his tenant's idea and opened the more-successful, Rüyam. That's it... That's the whole scoop.
The extent to which Rüya's owner was involved in the creation of Rüyam is unknown to me, but I can say that the two restaurants are virtually identical in every way, down to the sarcastic "Danke schön" hurled at tippers by the staff. Rüya has a slight edge, I suppose, because of its relative obscurity; fewer people = no lines. Outside of this and a clear absence of lemon juice, which is very up-front in Rüyam's Gemüse Kebab, I found Rüya's Kebab to be more or less the same as Rüyam's. Both are gold-standard, top-quality kebabs— shining beacons of hope in an ocean of bland, mass-produced #Dönerstacks. Given their similarity and that I have already reviewed Rüyam (for the very first Dönerstag!), I will include an excerpt, which also applies to Rüya about Rüyam below. The full review can be found here.
"I love Rüyam dearly. I have only had so many döner since moving to Berlin so I am hesitant to give this place a perfect 10, but in my book, Rüyam comes pretty damn close to being the perfect sandwich. The flavor combinations here are very balanced and seem to be well thought out in a way that other döner just aren’t. The quality is very high, and the ingredients seem to be quite fresh. This is a place I always take out-of-town guests because it is consistently excellent."
